Mumtaz, 34, is still in shock after barely surviving Cyclone Sidr, the category 4 storm which struck Bangladesh’s southern coastline on Thursday, November 15.

"We all thought that we were going to die," says Asia, 40. When she talks about the night that Cyclone Sidr annihilated both her home and her village, the traumatic shock is visible in her eyes.

Firoza slowly shoulders the white sack. It’s heavy for her. At the age of 70, she has lost the strength she once had. When Cyclone Sidr shattered her wooden house in Bangladesh, it also shattered what remained of her life.
