CARE started working in Yemen in 1993, building water and sanitation systems, improving agriculture and promoting the sustainable use of natural resources.
We have also responded to several emergency situations in Yemen including the 1993 Aden floods and the 1994 Yemen Civil War.
CARE in action:
Improving water and sanitation
Yemen is an arid, water-scarce country where 30 per cent of the population does not have access to safe drinking water. We are the only non-governmental organisation providing Yemeni communities with clean water and sanitation.
Working with marginalised groups
We found that in Yemen, disabled children receive inadequate health care and little support from their families or from society. The families of disabled children receive little guidance on how to care for their children or help them to lead fulfilling lives. We are working to promote the rights of disabled children and other marginalised groups in Yemen by ensuring they get an education and good health services, as well as helping them to earn an income.
