CARE in Côte d'Ivoire

CARE has been working in Côte d'Ivoire since 2000.

In Côte d'Ivoire we:
  • build and repair infrastructure, such as roads
  • fight HIV and AIDS
  • improve health care
  • promote conflict resolution

After the attempted coup in September 2002, CARE began providing food to people who were forced to flee their homes. We built and repaired infrastructure, such as roads and bridges, in the Bouaké area.

CARE in action:

Fighting HIV and AIDS

Much of our work in Côte d'Ivoire focuses on preventing the spread of HIV and AIDS. For instance, we are raising awareness about HIV and AIDS among high-risk populations such as migrant workers, wives of migrants and commercial sex workers. We are working to improve the health care available to people living with AIDS.

Promoting reconciliation
We aim to promote peace and conflict-resolution by supporting forward-thinking local organisations. In partnership with these organisations, we are running a series of reconstruction projects, providing residents with an incentive to collaborate with one another.
