Geoffrey Dennis - Chief executive

Geoffrey Dennis joined CARE International UK as chief executive in April 2004. In 2000, he took up post as chief executive of Friends of the Elderly, where he took the charity into profit and doubled its size, making it one of the largest elderly care charities in the UK.

Before that, he was international director at the British Red Cross for six years and was then promoted to the post of Head of South Asia with the International Federation of the Red Cross (IFRC).

He came to the charity sector 12 years ago after a first career working on development issues in the private sector. He became director of the Economics and Finance Division at Ewbank Preece Consulting and was later managing director of Travers Morgan Environmental Consultancy.

John Plastow - Programme Director

John Plastow was appointed Programme Director for CARE International UK in March 2008 having spent the previous two years working as its Africa Regional Manager.

John started out as a VSO teacher working in rural Western Kenya for two years. After a brief spell with Comic Relief he completed a Masters Degree in Rural Development and went on to work in Northern Iraq with Save the Children and for Oxfam in Sri Lanka.

More recently he worked for Oxfam Ireland in Tanzania where he started Oxfam Ireland’s first overseas country operation. Between times he has worked for ACORD in the UK focusing on the Horn of Africa and spent four years working as a consultant based out of the Sudan.

Carol Monoyios - Marketing and Communications Director

Carol joined CARE International UK in August 2005 from the Royal National Institute for Deaf People (RNID) where she had been director of marketing and membership since 2002.

Before joining RNID, Carol held a number of marketing positions at Macmillan Publishers, most recently as director of marketing and UK sales for Palgrave-Macmillan.

Prior to this, she worked for the BBC World Service and in magazine publishing. Carol’s interest in development began in 1990 when she spent two years in Eastern Europe working on a number of development projects.

Mark Salway - Finance Director

Mark is the Finance Director at CARE International UK where he is responsible for Finance, IT and all Company Secretarial duties. Mark joined Care in October 2007 from Cats Protection (a major fundraising charity) where he was Head of Finance and IT. Before this he worked at KPMG in the management consulting team, where he led the offering to Charities.

A Chartered Accountant, Mark has worked in the Charity sector in both consulting and hands-on roles. He has worked with ActionAid, Guide Dogs, Barnardos, the Church of England and also many small Charities. He also has considerable consulting experience in the commercial sector.

Mark is a visiting lecturer at CASS Business School and also has published research and guidebooks under NCVO, ACEVO and CFDG.

Lucy Stoner - Director of Human Resources

Lucy Stoner is director of human resources at CARE International UK where she is responsible for HR and staff and organisational development. She joined CARE as human resources manager in July 2003 from the Commission for Health Improvement where she worked as a human resources adviser. She was promoted to her current position in June 2004.

Lucy has 10 years’ experience of working in human resources and has worked in both private and not-for-profit organisations.

She has a BA Hons degree in Fine Art and an MA in Human Resource Management. She is CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development) qualified, is trained in psychometrics and also has a CIPD Certificate in Training Practice.
