London, 19th December 2007 – This month marks the third anniversary of the catastrophic tsunami in the Indian ocean and the closing stages of the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) humanitarian relief programmes.

Leading UK relief agencies are acutely concerned at the escalation of hostilities in north and east Sri Lanka which has displaced a further 210,000 people from their homes in the last seven months – almost half the number that were forced to leave their homes following the tsunami.

Members of the DEC will have spent an estimated £141m on Tsunami relief operations in 2006.

CARE’s tsunami housing construction program follows the best standards for building.
