CARE's HIV Report: Earning a decent living
Earning a decent leaving is the overlooked weapon in the fight against HIV and AIDS.
CARE's experience shows that more money for someone living with, or whose life is affected by, HIV means:
- A longer, healthier life: the prospect of life, rather than preparation for death
- The opportunity to buy food and clothes and provide an education for the orphans and vulnerable children in a household
- People are equipped with the ability to fight stigma and discrimination caused by HIV
- A chance for people to raise their position in society and build a strong and viable voice
- The ability to assert oneself - and challenge cultural norms that perpetuate both human rights abuses and further spread the disease
