CARE's HIV Report: Earning a decent living

Earning a decent leaving is the overlooked weapon in the fight against HIV and AIDS.

CAREs HIV Report Earning a decent living. The overlooked weapon in the fight against HIV and AIDS.

CARE's experience shows that more money for someone living with, or whose life is affected by, HIV means:

  • A longer, healthier life: the prospect of life, rather than preparation for death
  • The opportunity to buy food and clothes and provide an education for the orphans and vulnerable children in a household
  • People are equipped with the ability to fight stigma and discrimination caused by HIV
  • A chance for people to raise their position in society and build a strong and viable voice
  • The ability to assert oneself - and challenge cultural norms that perpetuate both human rights abuses and further spread the disease
