Too many of the world's poorest children are missing out on basic education. More than 100 million children around the world do not go to school.
For the world’s poorest communities, the cost is enormous. Education helps people fight poverty and build healthier families.
In many parts of the world, girls and women are denied an education, leaving them vulnerable and dependent, without the opportunity to earn money and decide their own future. With an education girls are healthier, less likely to get HIV or AIDS, and more likely to have healthy babies.
CARE helps more than 1.4 million children around the world get a good education. Nearly 70,000 children are in schools directly supported by CARE. And in 2005, we trained more than 3,000 teachers.
Many children are kept away from the classroom because they are caught in war zones or working to support themselves and their families. Sending children to school is also very expensive for poor communities.
CARE helps parents, teachers and community members work together to get children to school. We also assist regional and national governments deliver better education programmes.
