Leave a legacy

A boy in Ethiopia washes his face with soap and water. His family used to get sick on a regular basis but now after CARE’s water, sanitation and hygiene project they are healthy and don’t have to walk as far to get clean water.

How can I continue to care for families in the future?

Robin and Lucene

I would like some more information about how leaving a gift in my Will to CARE will help families in need long into the future

Over the years so much has happened in the world. In November 2013 a deadly typhoon caused catastrophic damage leaving families in the Philippines homeless and traumatised. Lucene was three months pregnant when the typhoon destroyed her house. Homeless, Lucene and her three-year-old son Robin (pictured above) were left with nothing but the pyjamas they were wearing.

Wonderful supporters like you helped to respond immediately, providing food, water and shelter to families like Lucene’s. And wonderful gifts left in Wills gave us the immediate, available income to act straight away, as soon as families like Lucene and Robin needed help.

Just as importantly, gifts in Wills also help us with our long-term work. In Ethiopia, supporters like you have given safe water to communities using boreholes and water wells. For girls like 14-year-old Ayanna (see photo above), this means that she no longer has to walk for over six hours each day to collect water that isn’t safe for her and her family to drink. It means she can now go to school and learn with other children. Her life has changed forever and with a gift in your Will you could help other children like Ayanna.

We know that your Will is a very private matter and of course your family and friends come first, but we hope you will consider leaving a gift for those families you will never meet but who will remember your generosity forever. With just as little as 1% of your estate left to CARE in your Will, you can continue to have a huge impact on families living in poverty long into the future.

Honey (pictured above) has supported CARE for many years with a regular gift, and decided to leave a gift to CARE in her Will. She said:

Of course it’s important to me to make sure my family are provided for and have a lasting reminder of my life. But I’m happy to know that I’ll also help poor people improve their lives. That means that I have made a Will that looks after all the people I care about.
