Campaigners against violence in Uganda. © Jenny Matthews / CARE
In just a few weeks, the UK will be voting in a general election.
Ahead of this, CARE International is urging all political parties to put women at the heart of their foreign policy priorities.
You can support this action by signing up to our election statement today. Politicians listen to the people who vote for them, so your voice really counts.
Women and children are disproportionately affected by conflict. Rape is used as a weapon to terrorise women and destabilise whole communities.
Around the world much is happening to campaign against the violence experienced by women in conflict and post-conflict societies. In Uganda women are campaigning for legislation to protect them from violence in their homes.
In Nepal the government has declared 2010 the year to end gender based violence. At the highest international levels, the United Nations has recently appointed a Special Representative on sexual violence in conflict.
You can support the work of activists around the world by asking the political parties here in the UK to take action.
Join us in calling on all political parties to commit to:
- Putting services for women at the centre of action against rape in war;
- Promoting justice for rape survivors;
- Making the UN system more effective and accountable to women;
- Addressing the root causes of violence against women.
Sign our election statement today and add your voice against violence.
