CARE International has been working hard in Haiti since the earthquake hit and with an estimated three million people affected there is much to do.

Tens of thousands of people affected by the earthquake are now living on the streets and in makeshift camps in open public spaces throughout Port-au-Prince.

CARE has reached over 143,000 people with food, water purification packets, jerry cans, hygiene kits, mattresses and blankets. We are also providing kits to pregnant women and new mothers.

Contents of a hygiene kit:

  • Toothbrush
  • Toothpaste
  • Soap
  • Washing soap
  • Shampoo
  • Comb
  • Detergent
  • Towels
  • Safety pins
  • Laundry line
  • Toilet paper
  • Sanitary towels

Clean drinking water is being delivered through eight bladder containers and they can provide water to 10,000 people every day.

CARE has been working in Haiti since 1954 and we will continue to help the people of Haiti over the coming months and years. We know from previous experience a disaster of this size requires a long term response and we will be there to help people get back on their feet.
