International Women’s Day is celebrated every year on the 8th March and CARE has been involved with various celebrations.
On Saturday the 6th we joined Million Women Rise and marched around London to call for an end to violence against women. Judith Adorkorach, a CARE activist from Uganda, joined the march and delivered a speech to the people gathered in Trafalgar Square.
On Monday the 8th we took part in another march. Organised by Women For Women International, this global campaign action on International Women’s Day highlighted the role of women in building peace and rebuilding communities. Women met on bridges across the UK, USA, and in Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda and Bosnia.

During both these events CARE asked people to join us in asking the political parties to make the upcoming general election count for women.
Hundreds of people have signed up to our election statement, asking each political party to put women at the heart of their foreign policy commitments. Please take two minutes and add your voice against violence now.
