An issue that is common in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro and Croatia is the discrimination of Roma people.
Especially vulnerable are Roma women and children who are not just exposed to extreme poverty, discrimination and prejudice, but are also, in most cases, economically dependent on Roma men and thereby much more vulnerable to human trafficking and domestic violence.
CARE International in the North-West Balkans, together with project partners, is launching a campaign focused on empowering Roma women and raising awareness of their position in today's society.
Four Roma women from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro and Croatia talk about prejudice and discrimination they have been faced with, but also emphasise the need for education and employment of Roma people, women in particular, as necessary to improving their quality of life and addressing social exclusion.
All the four women featured in the video clip are activists and are working in their own communities on strengthening and empowering Roma women.
