Campaigning with CARE against gender violence in conflict.International Women’s Day, on 8 March, is an annual celebration of women’s strengths and achievements, and also a recognition of their continuing struggle for equality. It is celebrated in many different ways around the world, from Afghanistan to Uganda. Gifts are given, flowers sent and in some countries it is even a national holiday!
Whilst International Women’s Day is a great opportunity to celebrate, it is also a reminder of the barriers women face to achieving equal rights. Voices Against Violence is CARE’s campaign to end violence against women in areas of conflict. We’ll be really busy around International Women’s Day this year, campaigning for a more equal world, and we need your help.
How you can get involved:
Million Women Rise
Million Women Rise is an annual demonstration against violence against women in central London. This year the demonstration is taking place on Saturday 5th March at 12pm and CARE campaigners will be out in force, marching with thousands of other activists across London, before joining the rally and celebrations in Trafalgar Square. The message of the Join Me on the Bridge campaign is that ‘Stronger Women Build Bridges of Peace’. CARE campaigners in London will be meeting on the Millennium Footbridge, but there are lots other locations around the country.
