Since then, CARE has worked in close cooperation with local partners to deliver projects in water and sanitation, food security and agricultural diversification, community development, cooperative management, and more recently, informing policy development and modernising the state.

CARE is also actively involved in emergency response and humanitarian assistance.

Since 2000, CARE has maintained a permanent presence in Cuba.

Geographic focus

CARE has worked in all regions of Cuba and in most of its provinces.

Most of our activities are now carried out in the Eastern Region, identified as priority by Cuban authorities. Programming has also expanded to Central Cuba, Pinar del Rio and Isla de la Juventud.

During its 2008 emergency response, CARE especially supported the highly affected provinces of Holguin and Pinar del Rio.

Local counterparts

Over the years, CARE has established strong working relationships with a number of local partners — their participation is indispensable.
