CARE has been working in Timor-Leste (East Timor) since 1994.
CARE in Timor-Leste works on long-term programmes in a number of areas including health, education and nutrition.
CARE is providing additional training for health care staff and volunteers, conducting regular growth monitoring in remote areas, and distributing supplementary food to malnourished children.
We distribute bed-nets to reduce the potential for mosquitoes to transmit malaria.
CARE is piloting a project that involves communities building and repairing roads, creating employment and enabling people in rural areas to access markets.
The project will provide communities with technical skills as well as helping to prevent landslides. It particularly focuses on increasing opportunities for women and young people.
CARE distributes a children's magazine, Lafaek, to children around the country. The magazine is one of the only sources of information about children’s rights, health, education, natural sciences and the environment. This empowers children, enabling them to voice their opinions, submit original stories and artwork.
CARE is working to increase knowledge about, and protect, children’s rights in Timor-Leste.
CARE is helping communities prepare for disasters, including drought and flooding, and supporting the local government to build capacity and enable people to become less vulnerable.
