Vietnam

Floods in Hoa Binh province have left 3,100 households under water, swept away livestock and badly affected rice and other crops. CARE Vietnam is providing assistance to 1,735 households (8,675 people) in the form of hygiene packages, mosquito nets, blankets and water filters.

Iraq

Following the military operation to retake Mosul, millions of displaced people are continuing to live in camps and host communities in the Kurdistan region of Iraq. CARE continues to support the displaced populations and their hosts with shelter materials and water, emergency toilets and showers, relief supplies such as hygiene kits, sleeping mats, water containers, blankets, kitchen sets, and managing waste disposal. We are also rehabilitating and providing equipment and nutrition supplements for maternal health clinics in northern Iraq, bolstering their capacity to treat and support pregnant women from Mosul and other areas.

Ethiopia

Recent conflicts in two regions of Ethiopia (Somali and Oromia) have resulted in over 217,000 people being displaced, most of them relocating to temporary centres in towns and cities. While the government works to resettle displaced people, CARE Ethiopia has been assisting people with food and non-food items such as clothing through our existing projects in East and West Hararghe. We are assessing the potential for a cash assistance programme.

26 Sept 2017

Horn of Africa

In Somalia, 6.2 million people are facing acute food insecurity, while in Ethiopia 8.5 million people will require emergency assistance between now and December. In some areas of Kenya, Global Acute Malnutirion is above 35% of the population, the highest rate within the Horn of Africa region. Health authorities, UNICEF, and aid organisations estimate that nearly 73,000 children in Kenya are severely malnourished and at risk of dying from drought-related hunger unless urgent aid is made immediately available. CARE is responding in all three countries, including through cash assistance, food and water, and health and hygiene support.

26 Sept 2017

Vietnam

Typhoon Doksuri has caused significant damage to homes and agricultural land across central Vietnam, with over a million people affected. In Ha Tinh province, 93,000 houses have suffered roofing or other damage, and many schools and health clinics are flooded and damaged. CARE’s response will include distributing hygiene kits and providing cash grants for shelter repairs.
