Appointment of new Chief Executive Officer

CARE International UK’s Board of Trustees is delighted to announce the appointment of Helen McEachern as its new Chief Executive Officer.

Helen brings 20 years of experience of international development and is currently CEO of the Cherie Blair Foundation for Women, a post she has held since 2017. Prior to that, Helen worked with ActionAid for 13 years, including seven years as International Director of Fundraising and Communications at ActionAid International, and six years as Director of Fundraising and Humanitarian at ActionAid UK.

Under her ambitious and authentic leadership of more than five years, The Cherie Blair Foundation for Women has seen a tenfold increase in the number of women entrepreneurs it has supported each year, successfully achieving its 100,000 Women Campaign in 2022.

Additionally, Helen holds a BSc. in Social Policy from Birkbeck, University of London, and an International Executive MBA from the IE Business School in Madrid.

CIUK’s Board Chair, Lyndall Stein, said:

Following a global search and rigorous selection process that produced an excellent field of candidates, Helen stood out for the breadth and depth of her experience within international development, her strong people skills, and her demonstrated commitment to championing the rights of women and girls. On speaking about joining CARE, Helen says:

I can’t wait to work with the CARE team to grow its contribution to the movement for just progressive development we all need.”

Helen will begin her new role as CEO in August 2023 taking over from Eamon Cassidy, CIUK’s Interim CEO, who has been in post since July 2022.
