CARE’s work in Romania
In Romania, CARE promotes the right of every child to a family. We started working here in 2003, with the sole focus of helping abandoned children. We work through a local organisation called SERA, to improve the lives of disabled and abandoned children.
Romania has a legacy from its communist era of large institutional children’s homes and orphanages, which do not offer a good environment for children to grow up. We work together with SERA to change this system, getting children out of institutional care and placing them with foster families.
