The impact of your gift: Meet Amira

I didn’t even have time to cry for my mother. The bombs kept falling so I grabbed my children and ran. I had no choice but to leave her body behind.”
When a bomb killed Amira’s mother in Sudan, she fled with her two daughters (aged 1 and 3) and walked for four months through blistering heat. They eventually reached a village on the border of South Sudan, where your donations help fund one of CARE’s much-needed health centres.
Today Amira and her daughters are now safe from the bombing, but life is still very difficult. Your support today will help provide food, water, hygiene kits and critical healthcare to women like Amira.
The history of the CARE Package

Did you know the CARE package is nearly 80 years old?
80 years ago, a group of people refused to stand on the sidelines while millions suffered in hunger after World War Two. So they came together to send packages of food to families across war-torn Europe. That’s how the CARE Package began.
For the families who received a package it represented a ray of hope and kindness, delivered from someone far away with a simple human desire to help them.
CARE Packages containing vital support are still sent today. But they have also grown into longer-term projects, making an incredible difference to millions of lives over the last 80 years –from helping girls get an education to supporting women to lead in their communities.
