The Foreign Affairs Committee has published its first report in the new parliament: “The Israel-Palestine conflict”.

CARE International UK’s head of advocacy and policy, Dorothy Sang, says:

“Today’s findings from the government’s Foreign Affairs Committee confirm what we have long known - the UK’s actions in the Israel-Palestine conflict have been too little, too late.

“For decades, Palestinians have been living under an Israeli military occupation. In the West Bank and East Jerusalem, it has led to the eviction of Palestinian families and demolition of their homes, increasing violence perpetrated by illegal Israeli settlers, and checkpoints and movement restrictions which have made it increasingly hard for Palestinians to earn a livelihood. In Gaza, the government of Israel's daily bombardment and siege is starving the population.

“While the UK government has stepped up its rhetoric, a ceasefire remains elusive, the conflict is still raging, and children are dying from hunger on a daily basis. Every day this government chooses not to act, that reality remains.

“Since coming into office, the UK government has continued to license British-made weapons that could be used in this conflict. Now is the time for the prime minister to seize the moment, halt all arms exports, and generate the momentum needed for a ceasefire and lasting peace where Palestinians and Israelis alike can live in safety and in full fulfilment of their rights.

“Too many have already been failed. The government must heed the advice from the Foreign Affairs Committee and act now to stop others meeting the same fate."
