On August 31st, the UK Government announced new life-saving support for pregnant women and new mothers, and menstrual hygiene kits for thousands of women and girls.

Commenting on this announcement, Dorothy Sang, Head of Advocacy and Influencing, said:

“This targeted support to women and girls in Gaza is welcome but long overdue. The unique challenges faced by women and girls have been largely forgotten in this conflict.

“Nearly 55,500 malnourished pregnant and breastfeeding women require nutritional aid. Miscarriages are up by 300%. And last year CARE research found that women are three times more likely to die in childbirth than before the crisis.

“However, the primary killer of Palestinian women and girls is the ongoing violence committed by the Israeli Government, supported by the sale of British arms. We once again call on the Prime Minister and the Foreign Secretary to end all arms exports to Israel, and to use every diplomatic lever at their disposal to bring about an immediate ceasefire.”
