Will you give hope to women like Galatia?

I am the only one to provide for my children. I if I die, my children are alone." - Galatia

When Galatia fled war in Sudan’s Nuba Mountains, she was eight months pregnant and leading seven of her children to safety along remote bush paths. Her daughter, Miriam, was born on the floor of a stranger’s hut, far from any clinic, clean water, or a trained midwife.

Weak from infection, grief, and hunger, Galatia kept walking - carrying her newborn, protecting her children, and holding onto hope even after losing her husband to the conflict. Today, stranded near the Sudan - South Sudan border, that hope has found support where your donations have helped to set up CARE’s health centre.

Here, Galatia and her children have received lifesaving treatment for malaria, malnutrition, and other illnesses. “This clinic is the reason we can survive,” she says. In one of the world’s hardest places, access to healthcare is giving mothers like Galatia not just treatment - but the hope to keep going.

Celebrating 80 years of hope in a CARE package

In May in 1946, a group of people refused to stand on the sidelines while millions suffered in hunger after World War Two. So, they came together to send packages of food to families across war-torn Europe, creating the very first CARE Packages.

For families who received a package it represented a ray of hope and kindness. Delivered from someone far away with a simple human desire to help them.

Today, our CARE Packages may have evolved, but the ethos remains the same - we give packages of hope to women and communities facing the world’s most challenging situations, so they have the power, resources and opportunities they need to survive and thrive.
