On 8 September, the Foreign Secretary announced an import ban on goods from Israeli settlements in the West Bank and a broader sanctions regime. He also pointed to ‘increasing evidence that war crimes appear to have been committed’ in Gaza, where more than 70,000 people – 20,000 of them children – have been killed in the last three years, and where today, Palestinians still face violence, destruction, and unimaginable living conditions.
Reacting to the announcement, Helen McEachern, CEO of CARE International UK, said:
“We welcome the Foreign Secretary’s statement – it represents a fundamental shift in the UK Government’s response to the atrocities committed against Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank every day.
"This shift in the Government’s position represents a long overdue commitment to upholding International Humanitarian Law and advocating for Palestinian rights with action, not just words. This must now be enforced using every tool at the government's disposal."
