FAQs

How do I sign up to take part in Walk 100k for Women?

You can sign up on Facebook now by clicking here. From there, we'll guide you through setting up your own Facebook fundraiser to share with friends and family. You'll also find the link there for ordering your free t-shirt. And then you'll be good to go! If you prefer to use JustGiving rather than Facebook for your fundraising then please click here to set up your JustGiving fundraising page.

Is there a registration deadline?

Anyone wanting to take part can sign up throughout August but we recommend the sooner the better so that you have your free t-shirt to wear by the first of September!

Where and when should I do my 100k walk?

The challenge starts on the 1st September 2021, and you’ll need to have totalled 100km of walking by the end of the month. You can walk wherever you like! Stay local with shorter daily walks or maybe have a few days where you really get those steps in.

What will the money I raise go towards?

When one woman is given a hand up out of poverty, she brings many other people with her. The money you raise will go towards funding CARE’s vital work supporting women and girls around the world to get the equal rights and opportunities they deserve. As an organisation, we aim to defeat poverty, save lives and achieve social justice, whether that's by educating girls, fighting inequality by promoting women's voices, or empowering women to build livelihoods by earning an income.

By taking part in Walk100k for Women you'll be walking in solidarity with women and girls whose lives are still thwarted by poverty and inequality. You’ll be showing your support for CARE’s work and help to bring about lasting positive change.

Is there a registration fee?

No, this challenge is free to join! No sign-up fees - you just need to set up your Facebook fundraising page with one easy click!

How do I get my free t-shirt?

Now that the challenge has started we'll no longer be sending out t-shirts but you're still welcome to join the Facebook group. Share your experience of completing the 100k challenge and read motivating posts from hundreds of other people taking part.

When will I receive my t-shirt?

If you ordered your t-shirt before the 3 September cut off date then please allow 10-15 working days for it to arrive.

What sizes are the t-shirts?

XS - 18 3/4" chest, 26 3/4" long

S - 19 3/4" chest, 27 1/2" long

M - 21" chest, 28 1/4" long

L - 22" chest, 29 1/4" long

XL - 23 1/2" chest, 30" long

XXL - 25 1/4" chest, 30 3/4" long

Who can take part/Is there an age limit for the challenge?

Anyone can take part! Anyone under 18 must have permission from their parent or guardian. Please see the event terms and conditions for more information.

Can I take part if I'm not in the UK?

Absolutely, this is a virtual event so you can take part even if you're not currently in the UK. Just please bare in mind we won't be able to get a free t-shirt to you.

Can I take part in a team?

Yes! We'd love for you to get a team of your friends/family/colleagues involved. You will all need to register and set up your own individual Facebook fundraisers. You will then be able to edit the description of your fundraiser and let your supporters know that you are taking part as a team. If you are choosing to complete some of your walks together, please adhere to social distancing government guidelines.

I've never fundraised before, how much do I need to raise?

Your Facebook fundraising page will automatically show a target of £150, but you can edit this to any figure you like. The easiest way to reach your target is to gain sponsorship from your friends, family and colleagues and spread the word online. We'll share lots of tips on boosting your fundraising on the Facebook group too!

My friend/family member wants to donate but doesn't have Facebook, how can they do this?

That's great news they'd like to donate! You can collect the sponsorship from them yourself and then donate to your Facebook fundraiser on their behalf. They can also either donate on our Just Giving page or email supportercare@careinternational.org, and we can provide bank details. Or, they can give our supporter care team a call on 020 7091 6100 to make a donation over the phone.

Can you recommend a walking app to help me complete the challenge?

Strava - join our CARE's Walk 100k for Women in September Strava club

MapMyWalk

Walkmeter Walking & Hiking

Fitbit (you don't need a Fitbit device)

Nike Run Club (not just for running, good for walking too!)

How do I prove I've walked 100km? Is there somewhere I can share my results with CARE (e.g. from a walking app)?

This is a virtual event so CARE won't be tracking or verifying your results. We do recommend that you share your progress on your Facebook fundraiser so your supporters can see how well you are doing!

Why Walk for Women?

A strong focus of CARE's work is on supporting women and girls who are denied basic human rights. They have limited access to health care, to an education, to the opportunity to earn a living. They are denied a say in the decisions that affect their future. But when women are healthier, their children and families are healthier. When girls get an education, they build better lives for themselves and their families. And when women have an income, they invest in their children and families, creating benefits for this generation and the next.
